THE LURKERS by Charles Butler

Verity is a normal fourteen-year-old living in the United Kingdom. She lives with her parents and younger ten-year-old brother John. She claims if her family were any more normal, they'd be a freak show.

Then she notices some strange behavior from John. At a football game he breaks his leg. He has to stay home to heal. But that's not what's weird. Verity, who's name means truth, overhears him talking in his room. She thinks he's talking to himself but finds out John has an invisible visitor named Galder. Galder is the twisted version of a genie. A genie that will grant John's every wish but for a price.

Verity refuses to let her brother to be taken over and fights back. She does this even though she might lose herself in the bargain.

Part Twilight Zone, part Body Snatchers, THE LURKERS, will keep you on the edge of your seat. When Verity stands up to Galder, she finds a hidden courage she didn't know she had. The reader will root for Verity as she plans to fight back to save her brother from the lurkers.

I'd recommend this book to those who like a fast suspenseful read. I'll guarantee you, you'll never think of imaginary friends in the same way again.

Sorry to be pedantic, Kim, but you've misspelt the book title in the review itself - it's The Lurkers, not the Luckers ! :-D
