Sheila goes over some of the books that didn't make the final cut for the Cybils. I like what she did so I thought I'd share some of my favorites that didn't make the list.

Dragon Slippers

This book surprised me. It's not just another dragon tale. Each dragon has it's own personality and the heroine isn't the usual girl who waits for the prince to rescue her. A very fun and engaging tale.

Penguins of Doom

I really enjoyed this quirky debut novel. The story is in diary format of a girl who's looking for her missing sister and the adventures she finds along the way. My son enjoyed the pictures. Some kids at the park also got excited when they saw me reading this.

Wildwood Dancing

I have to admit, the first one hundred pages were slow but this book is so worth reading! The whole premise of being careful what you wish for worked throughout the story. The author does a great job showing both the world of fairy and Night People. The author writes in her notes the background of the whole vampire mythology. She also traveled to the country and visited both well-known attractions and places off the beaten track. I sensed this while reading this story.

Secret of Grim Hill

This is a great book for those who aren't ready for the grittiness of a more YA urban fantasy. Also the cover doesn't do this book justice. I liked this tween urban fantasy about a girl that wants to play soccer so bad that she goes for a scholarship at this one school that has it's own secret.

If you've been reading my blog you know how much I've been enjoying this series. I LOVED this book! This story has a gothic feel complete with post Civil war atmosphere, fairies, and ancient love letters. Part historical fantasy and horror, the author sweeps the reader away in a very imaginative world. This is sure to please Holly Black fans.

The House of Night series is like addictive candy. Once you start to read the story, you can't put the book down.

Vampyres are not the cliche monsters of a Dracula tale. They don't burn up in sunlight(though the sun does bother them), have fangs, or die with a stake in the heart.

Some other great books include: WICKED, LOVELY by Melissa Marr. GIVING UP THE GHOST. BLACK BOOK OF SECRETS.

So many great books! On Thursday I'll post the winner for the fantasy/science category.

You're one busy woman
I just read through the last two entries you've made. You have a lot of irons in the fire! Thank you for the summaries of the novels that didn't make the list. I want to read all of them!
